Good Clean Fun
Part IX
Michael woke me up at six o'clock to get ready to go to the studio for a 7:30 cast reading. I didn't even know where I was. I said, "No Mom, just five more minutes."
"I'm not your mother. Now get up!" Michael said.
"Oh, it's you Michael. What time is it?" I asked
"Six o'clock. We have to be at the studio at 7:30, so get up," he said.
I stumbled out of bed hitting my toe on the door facing. I hobbled to the bathroom and got into the shower. I got out way too late. It was 6:35. I had to get dressed, comb my hair, and eat breakfast in twenty-five minutes. I put on shorts and a t-shirt and my canvas shoes, ran a brush through my hair, and dashed down the stairs. I managed to consume a bowl of cereal in two minutes, and then I was ready. Michael just sat at the table and laughed at me.
We left for the studio around seven and arrived there right on time. Bob and Bert wanted me to hand out scripts as soon as I got there. I picked up scripts and started to hand them out--even though I hardly knew anyone!!!
I just handed the extras their scripts cause they really didn't matter anyway. I gave Michael his, and Micky too. Micky was especially flirtatious that morning.
"Hey, beautiful," Micky said with a wink.
"Good morning," I said curtly.
"What's wrong? Did Michael say something to you?" He asked.
"No. Nothing's wrong. Why would you ask that?" I asked innocently.
"Well, you're just not as friendly as you were that night," He said.
"On that night, I didn't know you had a girlfriend," I said sharply. Of course I knew he had a girlfriend on that night, but I had to tell him that so that Michael wouldn't find out that I lied. I walked away before he could say a word. The next script had the name, "Peter Tork" on it. I asked Michael which guy was Peter and he pointed him out to me. I went over and introduced myself as an intern who was going to help with the show.
"Hi, I'm Cari Courson. I'll be interning here with the show through an internship I got at UCLA. I'll be a Freshman this fall," I said thinking 'What a goofball I am.'
"Well, hello, Cari Courson. My name is Peter Tork. It's very nice to meet you. So, you'll be a Freshman at UCLA, huh?" He asked.
"Yeah. I'm really excited about it," I said with a smile.
"I hope that you do better than I did in school," he said.
"Oh, didn't you do well?" I asked.
"No, I had the potential. I just didn't have the motivation," he said with a huge smile.
We talked for a little while longer when I realized I hadn't given out all the scripts. He understood that I had to go and told me that he really enjoyed talking with me. Then I preceded to hand out scripts to people who had parts in the show other than the band members. I got down to my last one. It was labeled, "David Jones."
Oh, this is the one Micheal wanted me to meet-- the uptight one (in my mind at least). So I asked Micheal which one was David and instead of pointing him out to me like he did Peter, he took me by the hand and led me over to where David was.
"David Jones, this is Cari Courson," Michael announced.
David turned around slowly, looked at me, and said, "'Ello there. And what is a pretty girl like yourself doing here besides brightening up the place?"
I was stunned to say the least. He was cute and all, but I had never been talked to like that before. I just said, "Here's your script Mr. Jones," and handed it to him. I turned to walk away when he grabbed my arm.
"'Old on a minute. First of all, it's Davy-- not Mr. Jones. And second of all, you didn't tell me what you were doing here," he said softly.
"I'm interning here through UCLA," I said.
"Oh, for 'ow long?" He asked.
"I don't know. Until you guys get cancelled," I said unknowingly.
"Well, I'll start praying that we never get cancelled," he said with a laugh.
I just walked away and went into Bob and Bert's office. I couldn't believe it! I was in love with a guy who was a playboy and had a girlfriend. Now, this guy is coming on to my with the corniest lines I've ever heard. ARGH!!!!!! I was sitting there with my head in my hands when in walked Micky.
